Six Picture Perfect Picnic Locations in Seattle

We’ve learned a thing or two from galavanting around with Picnic Party Seattle. If you’re looking for the perfect spot to dine al fresco, we’ve got you covered. 

In order from north to south: 

  1. Discovery Park

Seattle’s largest greenspace has stunning seaside bluffs with a variety of landscapes, making it a favorite for Seattle photographers year-round. This park has plenty of picnic spots to choose from, including a lighthouse on the beach. You won’t have to worry about finding a spot to picnic, but it might be a little bit of a walk. 

Best for: Beach picnics, romance, picturesque.

Need to know: Note the multiple parking lots, be prepared for a nature walk.

2. Parson's Gardens

This hidden gem is a small park, and you’ll likely be sharing it with locals enjoying the shaded, well kept gardens. The park is not too far from Kerry Park lookout, and is across the street from Marshall Park lookout, boasting a sweeping view of the sound. 

Best for: Romance, Storybook setting.

Need to know: Intimate setting, but there might be others within earshot.

3. Bhy Kracke Park

A lesser known lookout in Queen Anne, this park offers picturesque views of the city from the top. The unique space is far more picnic friendly than Kerry Park, and there’s a playground on the lower levels. 

Best for: City views, family-friendly

Need to know: Accessed via dead-end road.

4. The Washington Arboretum

The world-renowned Washington arboretum is a gold mine for picnic spots among many species of flowers and trees. Come here for a quiet stroll on one of the many trails before you set up your picnic. The arboretum offers year round attractions to it’s many admirers. 

Best for: Romance, quiet, spacious

Need to know: be prepared to walk, be prepared to learn something about plants.

Leschi Park

This park has great beach access, peekaboo bellevue and water views, and is large enough to spread out. Nestled between a large greenspace and a quaint retail strip, this park has multiple areas that are perfect for picnicking. Whether you want to be right on the water, a secluded by foliage but with water views, or completely enclosed on the upper lawn, this easy-access location is perfect for picnics of all sizes. 

Best for: Lake-goers

Need to know: there’s an upper part of the park that’s even more secluded.

6. Lincoln Park

The ultimate beach picnic awaits at Lincoln Park in West Seattle. Ample coastline gives options for many picnics, and structures are available to reserve if that’s your thing. Stay for sunset for a west-facing view. 

Best for: large groups (reserve a picnic structure), family-friendly, beach-lovers

Need to know: requires a walk down from the parking lot.
